Strengthening Between-Sentences and Between-Paragraphs Cohesion by Selecting the Most Appropriate Conjunction

Abstract

This research is aimed to describe of between-sentences and between-paragraphs conjunction cohesion strengthening found in article written by student of grade 12 SMA Negeri 1 Weru Sukoharjo. Qualitative approach was implemented, words and phrases classified as conjunctions in the article were uses as data, accumulated by exerting the documentation, reading and noting techniques. Data analysis was performed by employing the padan method. Results shows that the meaning discovered between-sentences conjunctions and between-paragraph conjunctions are (1) causal; (2) additional; (3) contradicting; (4) purposive; (5) abridgement, exemplification, and identification. There were discovered selecting the most appropriate between-sentences dan between-paragraphs conjunctions can support strengthening text cohesion.
